The Lungs of the City
These images focus on the environment, specifically urban parks. I find the role of plants to be fascinating as they play a vital role, in absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen (at least during the day) which is the opposite of humans. I came across the phrase the "lungs of the city" whilst exploring open areas and parks in my local vicinity. The phrase was used as a memorable slogan in a campaign to keep parks in urban areas, as they provide valuable pockets of breathing space, in often crowded and polluted cities from being repurposed.
I collected items from my local park that had fallen to the park floor both natural and man-made. In order to get a realistic representation of what may be impacting our green spaces/ lungs of the city. Each image comprises a selection of these fallen objects, overplayed and arranged so that they form the outline of a pair of lungs.
